• What is our Logo? Our logo is actually Lawrence's whimsical drawing of himself! Over the years "the Gremlin" made appearances in greeting cards, notes and informal drawings and was even the name of Lawrence's Bowling team! Stay tuned - "the Gremlin" may show up when you least expect it! • What is Giclee? A Giclee (zhee-CLAY) is a “produced to order, high-resolution full size reproduction”. They are the closest option to an original painting available today. They are coveted by collectors for their fidelity and quality, and desired by galleries and artists alike. Giclees are superior to traditional print making methods in nearly every way. The colors are brighter, last longer, and are so high-resolution that they are virtually “continuous tone”, rather than tiny dots. The range, or "gamut" of color for Giclees is far beyond that of lithography - the details are crisper, and exactly resemble the original artwork. A Giclee will reveal the exact condition of the original painting - scratches, dirt, etc. These add to the character of your piece and should not be considered defects in your prints.
Giclees have opened a whole new world for both the artist and art collector. Museum quality Giclee reproductions combined with affordable prices gives the art buyer an option to add to their collection more often as they are priced midway between original art and regular limited edition lithographs.
Giclees can be printed on artist canvas or archival printmaking paper. Giclees on canvas can be stretched on wooden bars and hung, with or without a frame, just like an original painting. Giclees on paper need to be matted and framed under glass.
• How do I order? There are several easy ways to order:
- Visit our Gallery, and click next to the painting. You will be taken to the appropriate sales area.
- Call us, and you can order using your credit card. (US Shipments only)
• When will my artwork arrive? Our "Print to Order" canvas reproductions take approx. 10-15 days, and paper reproductions take about a week - depending on location and shipping method. Paper prints purchased through American Frame will be shipped according to the method you choose.
• How do I care for my Canvas Giclee? Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight as you would an original painting. Keep this in mind when choosing a location for your work. You might want to dust your canvas print regularly. Do not spray anything (like pledge) on it. Lightly wipe with a soft, dry cloth or duster.
If you must transport your artwork, lay a flat piece of cardboard over the front and back surfaces, and then wrap it in bubble wrap. Try not to keep it wrapped up for too long. Moisture buildup will cause damage. Canvas Giclees have a UV protective coating which makes them water resistant – not waterproof. Care must be taken to avoid getting them wet.
• What about framing? Both our Canvas and Paper Giclees come to you unframed so you can choose your colors from your local frame shop. Canvas prints are ready to go right into a frame. Paper prints require glass for protection, and one or more matts for enhancement. If you order through American Frame, you can buy your matt and frame at the time you order.
• What is "Gallery Wrap"? "Gallery Wrap" pertains to our canvas Giclees. This is when the edges of the canvas are "wrapped" around the sides of the stretcher frame, attached on the back and may contain a plain color. When canvas prints are "gallery wrapped", they are presentable for hanging without frames - thereby lowering the overall cost of hanging your artwork. Most of our canvas prints look best with a frame.
